What is actually a “Kiebitzfenster”?

Kiebitzfenster is an architectural form, which originated in Austria in the late 18th century and presents a window with a specific arched form in the façade, with the plase to sit on. This  typical Austrian window was very widespread  in the region of Danube river, as well in Serbia, especially during the late 19th and in early 20th century.

Kiebitzfensta as a state of mind.

Kibitzfensta (which is the Serbian version and pronunciation of the word “Kiebeitzfenster”) describes  a person (mostly young infants and older people) who doesn’t take  an active part l in the society , because of disability or lack of competence/experience and  who really enjoys looking through the Kiebitzfenster. .This person  can observe the “world” while sitting in warm and safe, the observation cannot hurt him/her,the observer  can relax on their Turkish divan, comment “the world”. But for those observers are  may not be clear that they are, too,  exposed and may be  seen. They aren’t any more only the observers, they become  an active team player on a big scene.

What do we want to change?

We do not want to have “actors”, personification of “life” and “active rolle in  the society” and “observers”, personification of “passive watchers “ or “sleepiness”. We want to merge those two neighbors . To achieve this,it’s up to  observers to “only “ open their   windows, so that the interaction can  begin..

What is Kiebitzfensta supposed to be?

Kibitzfensta should present a modern and unique concept in Serbia of “Culture house” of Austria, Germany and  Serbia in the first place with focus on modern scene in music, visual art, design and literature.

And what is Kiebitzfensta supposed to do?

Kibitzfensta is meant to be an arts project which communicates in the first place to young academics in Serbia (and in neighboring countries in West Balkan) as well as in Germain-speaking circles  who are about to open or  already have opened their Kiebitzfenster and gathered the experiences in EU countries which they want to share with those, who are just about to gain those experiences.

The aim of Kibitzfensta is to open the cultural dialog of civil society in countries of West Balkan and EU countries as well with all topics which are going to enable young people to transit  their “passing to the outside-world”  less painfully and much faster, so that Serbia could be an optimal partner in the fields  of knowledge, art, culture, technology, industry. This culture dialog enables the EU countries to get to know the new partner in all differences.

The transfer of experiences and  know-how are the only way  for the adequate preparation in a society for it’s economic, social, political, scientific and educational step forward and development.

How do we want to gain our aim?

Kibitzfensta doesn’t have the goal to recruit young academic elite in Serbia abroad, but to deal with exchange of their experience and work. It doesn’t present living next to each other, but among other. Kibitzensta has a role of exchanging places, a consulting service,  transfer between young creative people who can realize their artistic projects, ideas through exhibitions, installations, performances, discussions, educative workshops, blogs and to find their partners within Serbia, Austria, Germany, and other countries of EU and West Balkans. Kibitzfensta is also the place where young people in Serbia could gather needed skills and knowledge to be competitive on the world market.

The exhibition and educative forms of Kiebitzfensta:

To accomplish its dedicated purpose, Kiebitzfensta has to consist of :

one large (medium large) room for exhibitions, installations and small concerts and

to accomplish its educative role, Kiebitzfensta has to offer :

two medium large/small classrooms, where should take place the educational workshops, as well as language courses.

The exhibition room should have one “Café-corner” where the tourists could borrow/read/get the touristic prospects about Belgrade, Zemun, Serbia, Austria, Germany.. while drinking the “Wiener-Melange”. Also, in Café-corner the tourists could buy historical and contemporary literature about Austria, Serbia.., travel baedeckers from the late 19th  and early 20th  century about Belgrade, Zemun which had be written by  Austrian and German tourists ,then old postcards, but also CDs  and DVDs of modern music scene , Austrian, German films, bicycle paths of the Danube region…

Two classrooms (each with up to 20-30 seats) should be made for German language courses . (Austrian Institute (Österreich Institut Belgrad and Goethe Institut could use those classrooms as additional classrooms of their institutes because of luck of their space. Those classrooms can also use Austrian and German branches in Belgrade for Serbian language courses (for the german-speaking stuff), as well as for german language courses (for the Serbian stuff).

These two classrooms could also use artists for the workshops, lectures as well as the German and Austrian Foundations and institutions  in Serbia for their activities.

K. is also open to participants in the fields of science, industry, and to all individuals who want to be connected by building up their own networks.
